Missy Guest Blog: The new femininity of Lykke Li

Lykke Li cultured in the music videos and short films to her new album "Wounded Rhymes" an image that will have to do with the cute girl with the bun anymore. With her hair and 'heavy Metal' body jewelry she swears in the video for "Get Some" an esoteric cult-inspired femininity.

"I'm a prostitution - you gon get some" as a Form of self-empowerment or 'pussy power', as manifested itself in an interview it. When inspiration calls them Anaïs Nin, Simone de Beauvoir, Edith Piaf, Patti Smith, Gena Rowlands - 'just badass women' just. The video for "Get Some" quotes generously everything from shamanism to Amazonentum: Lykke Li dances in the candle circle before psychedelic video sequences of armed women.

all previously released videos add to the new aesthetic concept to include new components, particularly evident in the two short films by Moses Berkson. The first Super 8 shows images of the singer in the desert, with sandals and a long dress like they do not understand in greater detail actions with mirrors running and tries to dig a hole in the desert sand. In the second film will be further worked on to Anton Corbijn reminiscent aesthetics. Lykke Li crawls on the sand floor studio and performs rituals with knives. Especially these two videos are a vivid attempt a change of image - launch - maybe the way to more serious and darker.

In this timeline, the video for their last single release "I Follow River" to see. From the sand here is snow and we see a part with handheld camera filmed chase between herself and a man Again, the reverse role-play: She follows him, he tried in vain to escape.

Against what or why all this? Lykke Li says, it was the experience of the music industry since their release of their first album in 2008 that led to the consideration of the new songs and new visual ideas.

"Because you're a woman, the music industry puts you in another corner. I want to be fighting with the men. I want to be amongst the men, topless, throwing things."

The album "Wounded Rhymes" appears on 28 February on Atlantic Records. There is the possibility of some tracks of the album on Sound Cloud to listen. Lykke Li is playing three concerts in April in Germany.
